Seeking Support on Your Transformation Journey

As you embark on your journey of self-transformation, one of the most vital resources you can tap into is your support system. Transformation rarely happens in isolation. It's a journey that becomes richer, more insightful, and ultimately more successful when you have the right people by your side. In this blog post, we'll explore the importance of seeking support from friends, family, and professionals as you navigate the transformative path.

You don't have to navigate this transformative journey alone. Your support system is crucial. Family and close friends may not always be the source of support you need, just as they may not initially believe in your dreams or understand your transformation. Learn from my mistakes; bitterness and offense should not be your driving force.

Also, learn from my own misconceptions of spirituality. God is everything! Our belief in Someone and something bigger than ourselves puts our ego in check. We need a Divine relationship and all the benefits that come with that relationship. None of this is null and void. However, that does not negate the need to know ourselves. Knowing is the first part of winning the battle. There’s always a price for ignorance. The first greatest relationships are with your Creator and yourself.

Speaking in terms of your natural relationships, accept that you may need to look beyond your immediate circle for support. Trust the divine wisdom that attracts the right people into your life and repels those who don't belong. Your village doesn't consist solely of family and friends; it extends to mentors, professionals, and like-minded individuals who can guide and support you on your path. We are not betraying our family and friends by looking outward. Stretching ourselves is where true growth and change come from.

In my own life, my village includes spiritual mentors, healthcare professionals, and coaches beyond my family, friends, and associates. Each plays a unique role in my growth and transformation. Seek out those who can provide you with wisdom and knowledge, speeding up your journey by learning from their experiences.

While seeking support is essential, it's equally important to set boundaries. Not everyone in your life may fully understand or support your transformation, and that's okay. It's your journey, and you have the right to protect it. Honestly, you WILL have to protect it. The Bible speaks of guarding your heart because out of it flows your life. (see Proverbs 4:23) No one - I mean no one on this earth - will guard your heart and your life better than you. Remember, we teach people how to treat us. *Smile*

Establish boundaries that define who you grant intimate access to and who remains on the periphery. This isn't about closing yourself off from the world but about prioritizing those who genuinely contribute to your growth and well-being. You don’t have to give people the Samurai sword with a clean cut. Just allow some distance. Keep guard. Remember that not everyone should have access to your inner struggles and vulnerabilities. Everyone doesn't get access. And, "No" is a full sentence with an explanation unnecessary.

Take note, your village of support doesn't have to be limited to family, friends, or mentors you can meet in person. In today's interconnected world, you can expand your support system in various ways:

1. Online Communities: Engage with online communities and forums dedicated to personal growth and transformation. These spaces can offer valuable insights, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging. This is why I created the Women’s Transformation Collective on Meetup. We need safe spaces to embark on these journeys without judgment and rigid expectations.

2. Books and Podcasts: Embrace the wisdom found in books and podcasts. Authors and hosts often share their journeys and provide guidance that can resonate with your own path. Pastor Dharius Daniels taught me that a mentor can be someone who will never personally know you but fill you with wisdom and understanding from a distance.

3. Professional Guidance: Beyond mentors and coaches, consider seeking professional guidance from therapists, psychologists, or counselors. They can offer specialized support tailored to your unique challenges. There is nothing wrong with you if you need the guidance of a mental health professional to stabilize your emotions and free your mind and soul from trauma. We have these professionals in our society for a divine reason.

4. Courses and Workshops: Invest in courses and workshops that align with your transformation goals. These platforms provide structured learning and opportunities for connection with like-minded individuals. Another great lesson learned from Dr. Daniels, the greatest investment you could ever make is the investment in yourself.

Seeking support from friends, family, professionals, and a broader community is a crucial step on your journey of self-transformation. Your village of support will provide valuable insights, encouragement, accountability, and empathy along your path.

As you establish boundaries and expand your support network, remember that this journey is about progress, not perfection. Your commitment to personal growth and inner peace is a testament to your resilience and determination.

Here are some thoughts to ponder during your self-reflection:

  • Are there individuals in your life who may not fully understand or support your transformation?

  • How can you establish healthy boundaries with them while still maintaining a positive relationship?

  • In what ways can you expand your support network beyond your immediate circle?

  • Are there online communities, books, podcasts, courses, or workshops that resonate with your transformation goals and can provide additional insights and connections?

I hope this has been relevant and empowering for you. If it has consider joining one of my transformation circles for continued support and accountability. If you’re in Tampa, Orlando, or Atlanta check out Meetup.com for upcoming meetings. I’m working on a global collective for you ladies who don’t live near these cities. Hit me up and let me know you’re interested.
