Stop Resisting Your Isolation Season

By Alana Graddick-McMillan

The better life becomes, the scarier life gets.

There’s a phenomenon going around social media about the concept of “Becoming Her”, aka becoming the best, highest, most successful version of yourself. 2023 and 2024 have contained a massive wave of energy that has been influencing many of us to embark on this journey of betterment. A better mindset, a better body, a better career, we want it all!

Luckily for us, this energy is here to work with us to accelerate that path to the life of our dreams. In theory, this is exciting news. If we do our part, God will hand us our blessings in abundance. Beautiful! However, there’s a downside nobody is talking about.

The Truth About Becoming Her

The truth is, the journey towards becoming the best version of yourself is terrifying. Why? Because it is a MASSIVE change from everything we’ve ever known. The new lives we are seeking come with a new identity. The cost of that new identity and new life is the comfort zone that came with your old one. This means that in addition to completely unlearning and rewiring the beliefs, mindsets, and self-talk patterns you’re used to, sometimes God also calls upon us to release the people and environments we’re used to as well.

This is the point many of us get stuck at, myself included. I’ve been on this journey of identity shifting into the confident, fearless Boss Woman of my dreams for 8 years. I am now finally able to stop holding myself back and take the giant leaps of faith and radical action necessary to receive the life I’ve been praying for. The closer I get to the abundance God has waiting for me, the more He calls me to let go of everything around me. This has been incredibly difficult as someone who has struggled with feeling alone her whole life.

Every time I would get an intuitive nudge that a situation or person wasn’t meant for me anymore, I would ignore it. The thought of being alone on a path where everything is constantly changing and moving at a rapid pace left me paralyzed with fear. Every time I ignored a sign, God would make it louder and louder until I had no choice but to let the person or situation go.

Eventually, I found myself completely in the unknown. I’m getting to know this new, empowered version of me more and more each day but for a long time, it felt like I was in a stranger’s body. I’m not the person I once was and nothing in my outside world reflects my past self’s life at all. Strangely, the terror I felt when I was being called to let go of the final ties I had to my old life is gone. This sudden realization led me to an epiphany that revealed a magical lesson.

The Power of Embracing Your Isolation Season

My epiphany showed me that isolation is not punishment or proof that we’re not meant to have friends. This is simply another step in God’s powerful plan for our lives.

A lot of times, being called to a greater purpose requires a season of isolation. Especially when you’ve spent most of your life feeling powerless. This is because nothing we manifest into our lives from a space of powerlessness, low self-worth, or self-hatred is meant to be a part of our lives once we transform ourselves into the powerful, self-loving, and confident Queens we were put here to be. It’s simply not an energetic match.

After we let go of the old identity that no longer serves us, we must let go of everything that came with it as well. If you find yourself being called to an isolation season, I encourage you to embrace it as much as you can. This is a space where we can get to know and fall madly in love with the new us. This is a space where we can find our peace. This is a space where we get to see our divinity and power up close and personal. This is a space where we can be one with God and co-create our wildest dreams together.

This can be a beautiful time for us if we simply stop resisting and let it be. Besides, everything in this life is temporary. Soon, the isolation period’s purpose will be served and we will be ready to receive the tribe and the life that is a match to the women we’ve become. Trust every stop on this path to the higher life God has called you to, the answers will always reveal themselves in time.
