Women Warriors: Choose Peace Over Lies
There’s a battle that many of us are fighting, one that takes place quietly in our minds and hearts. It’s a war against the lies we’ve come to believe about ourselves—lies of unworthiness, inadequacy, and failure. These lies have been subtly woven into our thoughts over time, sometimes through past wounds, society’s expectations, or our own insecurities. Today, I want to talk about breaking free from those lies and stepping into a life of peace, purpose, and fulfillment.
We tend to ignore this battle because it’s so common. We’re used to the war for our thoughts and emotions, and it often overthrows our faith and hope, enslaving us to mediocrity and chaos. While we may no longer fight physical battles in our everyday lives, a war still wages for our souls—a war against the fulfillment of God’s purpose for our lives, the very reason we were created and born into this world. One of the most dangerous lies is the belief that we have no specific purpose. That lie alone is enough to overthrow God’s calling on our lives. It’s time to address these lies and forge a campaign of victory over them.
1. Recognizing the Lies We Tell Ourselves
It’s easy to fall into the trap of believing lies about who we are and what we’re capable of. Thoughts like, “I’m not good enough,” “I’ll never succeed,” or “I don’t deserve peace” become so familiar that we don’t even realize how much they’re holding us back.
Action Step: Start by identifying one recurring negative thought or lie. Write it down. Then, counter it with truth. If you’re a follower of Jesus, this truth can come from scripture—reminding yourself of who God says you are. For those who aren’t faith-based, your truth can come from affirmations, personal experiences, or your inherent worth.
One foot in front of the other, my sister. Just start recognizing and acknowledging that these lies exist. Then you’ll get bold and strong enough to strike them down and replace them with scriptures, affirmations, and empowering words.
2. The Importance of Spiritual Warfare
For Jesus' followers, this internal battle isn’t just a mental struggle—it’s a spiritual one. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces.” It’s important to recognize that the lies we battle can be spiritual attacks aimed at keeping us from our God-given purpose. This is where spiritual warfare comes in—prayer, scripture, and the armor of God equip us to fight back.
For Those Seeking Peace: Even if you’re not a person of faith, the principle remains the same: there’s power in recognizing the patterns and thoughts that keep us trapped. Mindfulness, meditation, and intentional self-care are practices that can help you resist negativity and reclaim your peace. Who knew? Self-care and self-awareness are forms of counterbattle!
3. Breaking Chains and Walking in Freedom
Breaking free from lies is about more than just mental resilience—it’s about spiritual and emotional freedom. God’s desire for us is to live in the fullness of who He created us to be. That means we don’t have to stay trapped in fear, comparison, or unworthiness.
Practical Step: Start speaking life into your situation. Replace the lie with a declaration of truth. For example, instead of “I’m not enough,” declare, “I am fully equipped for the purpose I’ve been given.”
For my sisters who are not Christian followers: Begin reframing your thoughts. Every time a negative belief arises, counter it with a statement that affirms your value and worth.
The life we dream of in those quiet moments of reflection is the life we’ve been granted the vision to access. But there is a woman we must become in order to live that dream. This journey requires fighting the battles.
One of my favorite spiritual teachers, Cindy Trimm, writes in her book The Art of War for Spiritual Warfare:
“We must realize that being on the earth means we live in the heart of the war zone between heaven and hell, good and evil, eternal life and eternal death. It is our place of testing and struggle, but also the only place we can experience victory and earn rewards—although neither will come without a fight.”
We’ve been fed the lie that there’s a life to be lived with zero battles to wage. The truth is, that simply being born into this world acclimated us to a life of warfare. Even when the external circumstances of life seem favorable, the internal war still wages within.
Breaking free from the lies that have held us back is an ongoing journey. But every step forward brings us closer to true peace, fulfillment, and the life we were meant to live. It’s time to recognize the lies for what they are, wage war against them, and step into the freedom that awaits us. Remember, peace doesn’t come from fighting battles that don’t need to be fought—it comes from winning the battles that truly matter.
